Transfer of Care: Switching to Millie Mid-Pregnancy

Maybe your current provider isn't the right fit. Maybe you found Millie after your pregnancy was already underway and wish you'd started here. Whatever the reason, switching maternity care mid-pregnancy is more straightforward than most people expect, and it starts with a single Zoom call.

The transfer of care visit

This first appointment is a video visit with a midwife, built specifically for people who are considering moving their pregnancy care to Millie. During the call, you and your midwife will:

• Holistically review your clinical history and how your current pregnancy is going
• Work together to figure out whether Millie is a good fit for your care
• Set up your follow-up appointments as appropriate

It's a two-way conversation. The goal isn't just for Millie to evaluate you, it's for you to get a real sense of whether this model of care fits what you're looking for.

What you need to know before booking

Timing matters. Millie accepts transfers up to 32 weeks gestation at the time of your first visit with a midwife, so if you're considering a switch, it's worth reaching out sooner rather than later.

Your insurance will be billed for this visit, the same as any other prenatal appointment.

Bring your records. Before your appointment, send your current prenatal records to Millie so your midwife has the full picture of your pregnancy so far.

What happens after the call

If Millie is a good fit, your ongoing maternity care will take place at the Berkeley clinic, with delivery at Alta Bates Hospital, or at the San Jose clinic, with delivery at Good Samaritan Hospital. From there, you'll settle into the same midwifery-led, OB-supported model every Millie patient follows: longer appointments, a consistent care team, and OB-GYNs available whenever more specialized support is needed.
