Amita is a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP), and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). She attended nursing and midwifery school at the University of California San Francisco California (UCSF), earning a Masters in Nursing. She also holds a Masters in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Arizona. Her career focuses on Maternal and Child Health (MCH) and family health. Her professional roles have included Doula, Health Educator, Lactation Consultant, Early Childhood Health and Nutrition Director, and Public Health Consultant. She currently serves as the President of the California Nurse Midwives Association (CNMA).
Amita's work includes improving MCH outcomes for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). She desires to make a positive impact on poor maternity outcomes that are far too common among minority populations in the United States. As a BIPOC person, she understands the importance of racially concordant care. She strives to bring a humble approach to the communities she works with. She aims to give compassionate, personalized emotional and physical support to the people she serves.
Personally, Amita enjoys spending time with her family, sailing with her husband in the San Francisco Bay, working in her garden, and making herbal teas, salves, and remedies. She loves to cook, dance, and spend quality time with her daughter, granddaughter, and friends.
